The Hen House, near Manaccan

Originally a small cluster of farm outbuildings, this award-winning bed & breakfast prides itself on being a haven of quietude. And given its location within some of Cornwall’s most peaceful countryside, there’s no reason to dispute the claim.

Indeed, while pets are welcome, the owners regretfully prefer not to accommodate children under the age of 12 years on account that so many of its visitors arrive there specifically for the tranquility.

View across Falmouth Bay

It offers two guest rooms: Mopani (which has a slight African theme) and Puno (with a more Peruvian flavour). It also has a self-catering barn, The Bantam’s Roost, which was once the cow byre of the farm.

Situated in the parish of Manaccan, the Hen House is actually a little closer to the village of Porthallow than the river itself. However, the glorious creekside villages of Gillan and St. Anthony are less than two miles away, while the open sea is even less so.

And if you prefer not to travel too far for a meal, then Manaccan boasts an old thatched country pub, The New Inn, while the South Café serves morning coffee, lunches and evening dinner. St. Keverne, Coverack and Helford Village itself are also easily reached by car.
